I am pleased to share the exciting news that the Milan Declaration on the Crucial Role of Science in Meeting Global Challenges is now live:
The Milan Declaration was conceived on June 29, 2024, during the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) in Milan. It underscores the vital role of science in addressing the world's most pressing challenges, such as climate change, public health crises, and sustainable development.
This landmark initiative was collaboratively developed by the following global scientific organizations:
• FEBS – Federation of European Biochemical Societies
• IUBMB – International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
• FAOBMB – Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists
• FASBMB – Federation of African Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
• PABMB – Pan-American Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
The declaration, supported also by 50 Nobel Price awardees, calls on scientists, institutions, and organizations worldwide to unite in advocating for the essential role of science in building a better future.
We kindly invite your society to support this important initiative by:
1. Sharing the declaration with your members and encouraging them to sign it online as individuals.
2. Promoting the declaration through your platforms, such as your website, social media, and newsletters.
To assist you, I am attaching a CALL To ACTION Kit with materials to facilitate your outreach efforts.
Our goal is to gather significant support by February, at which point a larger promotional campaign targeting the general public, press, and media will be launched. Your participation will play a key role in amplifying the impact of this declaration and strengthening the voice of the scientific community.
Thank you for your commitment to this vital cause. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further assistance.
Best regards,
Jose Sotelo
Chairman PABMB
